Benefit Concert

An Evening of Sinatra and Motown

One thing is certain:  The only thing bigger than Landau Eugene Murphy Jr.’s talent is his heart.  The “America’s Got Talent” winner demonstrated his considerable vocal chops at the Lyric Theatre in a concert benefiting the Samaritan Center on November 11.  The show was a thrilling wrap-up to what has been a remarkable year-long 50th anniversary celebration.

Landau wowed the audience with a wide selection of hits from the Great American Songbook and Motown – and he even threw in some early hip hop!  Woven throughout the show were stories of how he rose from washing cars in a small town in West Virginia to become the acclaimed international entertainer he is today.

Landau has a special place in his heart for helping others, particularly when it comes children’s causes, and he generously donates his time and talent to do so.   His commitment to Samaritan Center was never more evident than the day after the show, when he came to our campus and spent nearly three hours with the boys.  Landau’s messages to them were compelling and heartfelt, and they made quite an impact.  After a serious talk, they all went outside to do some bonding and shoot some hoops!

Making this event possible were our generous sponsors:  Geoffrey C. Smith Galleries, Inc., The Gafford, Artistic Visions, Earnie Carrere of Carrere General Contractors, NisAir Air Conditioning and Heating, R.V. Johnson Insurance, Publix Charities and Whiz Kids.  Special thanks go out to the staff of the Lyric Theatre and to the Landau team, who did everything possible to make this concert a reality.

If you missed out on this amazing vocal performance, don’t worry.  Word is that Landau is making plans to return for another benefit next year – and we can’t wait to see and hear him again!
